Skills recognition equivalence

Skills recognition is the term we use to refer to all types of assessment-only pathways to qualifications. These processes include:

  • Recognition of prior learning (RPL)
  • Recognition of current competency (RCC)
  • Up-front assessment.

C.Y. O'Connor Institute can help you to gain formal recognition for the skills and knowledge you may already have. This may mean you are given a credit towards a qualification you wish to achieve.

Skills recognition can also help you to identify your training needs more clearly, so that you do not waste time covering things you already know.

The way in which you have learnt something is not necessarily important as Skills Recognition places an emphasis on assessment. This can happen through:

  • Challenge testing
  • Direct observation of your work
  • Interview
  • A portfolio of evidence which you present to us which may include some or all of the following:
    • Written references
    • Photos/videos
    • Samples of your work
    • Reports and/or certificates
    • Letters of support
    • Performance management records.
