Library membership
Enrolled students are required to complete the LRC membership application form and identification card. It is optional to submit a photograph for this card. For those students who choose this option, they are required to supply a passport size photograph.
Membership is free and only valid to the inclusive period of enrolment.
Borrowing items
Your library card must be presented when borrowing. If you are requesting by phone, fax or mail you must provide your library barcode number.
All items borrowed are your responsibility. Please notify staff immediately if they are lost or damaged.
How many items you can borrow
Students are allowed to borrow a maximum of six items at any time. However, there is a limit of three non-print materials i.e. DVDs, Video Recordings, CD-ROMs, cassette tapes that could lend out at one time.
How long you can borrow items
- Books: Three (3) weeks
- Journals and magazines: One (1) week
- Non-print materials: One (1) week
Returning/renewing borrowed items
- Items may be renewed twice only if not required by another user
- Items must be returned by the due date if not renewed
- You will not be allowed to borrow any resources if you still have overdue items.
What happens if items are not returned
Items not returned to the LRC will incur charges and you will be invoiced for the items. Your membership will be suspended until this is resolved.
Inter-library loans (ILL)
An ILL service is available to students and staff of the Institute who have current library membership and who are in good standing. Only course related resources may be borrowed using this service.
TAFEWA Reciprocal borrowing services
The TAFEWA Library Services have established reciprocal rights agreements with:
- All TAFEWA Colleges in Western Australia
- Edith Cowan University
- Murdoch University
- Selected TAFE Colleges throughout Australia.
All current staff and students from the aforementioned institutions are eligible to avail the reciprocal borrowing service.
Borrowing history may be exchanged between host and home libraries to assist in the recovery of unreturned items.
Membership application
For TAFEWA students
Apply to your home library for a reciprocal borrowing membership card. Your home library will issue the card if you are currently enrolled as student in your institution and if you have good standing as library member. Membership is free and valid for the current year only.
University Students
You must supply a current student/library ID card and proof of enrolment. Membership is free and valid for the current year only.
Points to remember in reciprocal borrowing
- Present your reciprocal borrowing membership card to the host library in borrowing items
- You may borrow a maximum of two (2) items at any one time
- Items can be renewed once
- The amount and loan period is set by each host library
- You are not entitled to borrow materials from some restricted collections
- All items borrowed are your responsibility to the library of the lending institution i.e.returning of borrowed materials; reporting and payments of fines incurred due to lost and damaged materials
- Reciprocal membership is personal and non-transferable to any student
- Reciprocal borrowers are bound by the rules, regulations and penalties set by the host library.
Interstate TAFE Colleges
TAFE Colleges across Australia participate in a National Reciprocal Borrowing Scheme.

All LRC resources are added to the TAFE Voyager Online Public Catalogue (OPAC). The catalogue can be accessed either in the LRC or via the College’s web page or directly to http://voyager.det.wa.edu.au/

Regional TAFE
If you live in regional Western Australia then you can look to one of six TAFE colleges to support your training needs.
There are TAFE campuses as far north as Kununurra and as far south Albany. Wherever you live there will be one near you!
TAFE also has a partnership with Curtin University of Technology to offer courses through the Vocational Training and Education Centres in Kalgoorlie and Esperance.
